Ingredients

For the Stuffed Cabbage
  • 1 large head cabbage
  • 1 lb shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 1 lb smoked sausage sliced
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 bell pepper diced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp Cajun seasoning for bold flavor
  • 1 tsp olive oil for sautéing
  • Salt and pepper
  • Fresh parsley

Equipment

  • Large Pot
  • Large Skillet
  • Baking Dish
  • Foil

Method

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Step 2: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and place the head in the boiling water for about 3-5 minutes, or until the outer leaves are tender. Remove the leaves and set aside to cool.
  3. Step 3: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Step 4: Add the sliced sausage to the skillet and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Step 5: Stir in the shrimp, Cajun seasoning, diced tomatoes, and cooked rice. Cook until the shrimp are pink and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Step 6: Take a cabbage leaf and spoon a generous amount of the shrimp and sausage mixture into the center. Fold in the sides and roll up to create a stuffed cabbage roll. Repeat with remaining leaves and filling.
  7. Step 7: Place the stuffed cabbage rolls seam side down in a baking dish.
  8. Step 8: Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes.
  9. Step 9: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
