Ingredients

For the Firefly Body
  • 1 empty, clean toilet paper roll
  • Black or dark-colored paint or construction paper
For Decoration and Features
  • Googly eyes
  • Pipe cleaners for antennae and legs
  • 2-3 inches Yellow or light green tissue paper or cellophane for tail and wings
  • 1 Glue or hot glue gun
  • 1 Scissors
Optional Additions
  • 1 Battery-operated tealight or glow stick
  • Glitter, sequins, or stickers for extra sparkle

Equipment

  • Toilet paper roll
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun or craft glue
  • Optional: Tealight or glow stick

Method

  1. Step 1: Prepare the Body
Paint or cover the toilet paper roll with black or dark construction paper. Let it dry completely.
  2. Step 2: Create the Tail and Wings
Cut a 2-3 inch piece of yellow or light green tissue paper/cellophane and glue it inside the back end of the roll for the tail. Cut two wing shapes from the same material and glue them to the top sides of the roll.
  3. Step 3: Add the Features
Glue googly eyes to the front of the roll. For antennae, take two 6-inch pipe cleaners, twist the ends together, and attach them to the top of the roll. Optionally, add pipe cleaner legs to the bottom.
  4. Step 4: Make it Glow!
If using, carefully insert a battery-operated tealight or glow stick into the hollow roll.
  5. Step 5: Decorate and Personalize
Use glitter, sequins, stickers, or markers to decorate your firefly, adding unique patterns and personality.

Notes

Store finished fireflies in a box or container to prevent damage. These are best kept indoors as they are delicate and not weather-resistant.
