Ingredients

  • 1 box instant vanilla pudding mix 3.4 oz
  • 1 cup cold milk
  • 0.5 cup sour apple schnapps
  • 0.5 cup caramel vodka or 1/2 cup regular vodka plus 1 tbsp caramel syrup
  • drops red or green food coloring optional
  • 1 cup thawed Cool Whip or whipped cream
For Garnish (optional)
  • Whipped cream
  • Caramel drizzle
  • Crushed candy e.g., butterscotch, toffee bits, cinnamon candy
  • Apple slices

Equipment

  • Medium-sized Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Plastic shot cups

Method

  1. Step 1: In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk until smooth and thickened.
  2. Step 2: Stir in the sour apple schnapps and caramel vodka (or vodka and caramel syrup combo) until fully blended.
  3. Step 3: If desired, add a few drops of red or green food coloring and stir gently until you reach your preferred hue.
  4. Step 4: Gently fold in the thawed Cool Whip until the mixture is light and fluffy. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Step 5: Spoon the mixture into plastic shot cups. This recipe yields about 10-12 shots. Refrigerate for at least 1–2 hours to allow them to firm up and develop flavor.
  6. Step 6: Just before serving, garnish with a dollop of whipped cream, caramel drizzle, crushed candy, or a fresh apple slice.

Notes

Substitutions & Additions: Experiment with different schnapps flavors like peach or raspberry. For vodka, try vanilla or whipped cream flavored, or simply plain vodka with extra caramel syrup. For a non-alcoholic version, swap sour apple schnapps for concentrated apple juice or cider, and caramel vodka for milk with an extra tablespoon of caramel syrup. Add chopped pecans or walnuts for extra crunch. Serve in small dessert cups or mini mason jars if shot glasses aren't preferred.
Tips for Success: Whisk pudding vigorously to avoid lumps. Do not skip the 1-2 hours chilling time for proper firmness. Fold in Cool Whip gently to maintain an airy texture. These shots can be made up to 2 days in advance; keep them covered in the fridge and garnish just before serving.
Storage: Cover individual shot cups tightly with plastic wrap or transfer to an airtight container. They will keep beautifully in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days, making them an ideal make-ahead party treat.
