Method
- Step 1: Activate the yeast by stirring together yeast, warm milk, and honey in a large bowl. Let sit until frothy, about 5–10 minutes.
- Step 2: Add melted butter, egg, and flour to the yeast mixture. Stir until dough comes together, soft but not sticky. Add more flour if needed.
- Step 3: Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, about 60–90 minutes.
- Step 4: Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Roll out to about ½-inch thickness and cut into 2x2 inch squares. Place squares on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced apart.
- Step 5: Bake rolls in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 12–15 minutes until golden brown on top.
- Step 6: Brush hot rolls generously with melted butter for a shiny, flavorful finish. Serve warm.
- Step 7: For the cinnamon honey butter, beat softened butter, honey, powdered sugar, and cinnamon together until fluffy. Chill if desired before serving.
Notes
Make rolls dairy-free by substituting almond or oat milk. Swap honey for maple syrup for a different sweetness. Add shredded cheddar or herbs on top before baking for a fun twist. Store rolls in an airtight container at room temperature up to 2 days or freeze up to 3 months.
