Method
 

  1. Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Step 2: In a large bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
  3. Step 3: In another bowl, whisk together the sour cream, milk, eggs, and vegetable oil until smooth.
  4. Step 4: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  5. Step 5: Fold in the chopped onion, shredded cheese, and chives if using.
  6. Step 6: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
