Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon red food coloring for classic red velvet look
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt to balance sweetness
For the Cheesecake Layer
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg to help set the cheesecake
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for flavor

Equipment

  • 8x8-inch baking pan
  • Medium Saucepan
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Spatula
  • Knife

Method

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Step 2: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla until everything is well combined.
  3. Step 3: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined. Then, stir in the red food coloring until the batter is a beautiful, even shade.
  4. Step 4: Spread half of the brownie batter into your prepared baking pan, smoothing it out into an even layer with a spatula.
  5. Step 5: In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add the sugar, egg, and vanilla, mixing until all ingredients are well combined and creamy.
  6. Step 6: Pour the cheesecake mixture over the brownie layer in the pan. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining brownie batter on top of the cheesecake layer. Using a knife, gently swirl the two layers together for a marbled effect.
  7. Step 7: Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. You want them to be fudgy, not dry!
  8. Step 8: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting them into squares and serving. Enjoy!
