Ingredients

For each color
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 0.25 cup tear-free baby shampoo, body wash, or dish soap mild formula
  • few drops food coloring or liquid watercolor per color
Optional Additions
  • any glitter biodegradable recommended
  • few drops essential oils e.g., lavender, citrus
  • various foam letters/toys
  • various whisks or scoops

Equipment

  • Hand Mixer or Blender
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Sensory Bin, Tray, or Bathtub

Method

  1. Step 1: For each color, combine 1/2 cup water, 1/4 cup soap, and a few drops of food coloring/liquid watercolor in a separate bowl or blender.
  2. Step 2: Blend on high speed for 1-2 minutes until thick, foamy peaks form. Avoid overfilling the container. If using a blender, work in batches.
  3. Step 3: Carefully transfer the frothed foam into a sensory bin, tray, or bathtub. Rinse the mixing bowl/blender thoroughly between colors to maintain vibrancy.
  4. Step 4: Repeat steps 1-3 for all desired colors. Layer or swirl them together to create a rainbow or marbled effect.
  5. Step 5: Add optional extras like glitter, essential oils, or toys to enhance the sensory experience.

Notes

This foam is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. It may lose some fluffiness but is still usable. Adjust the soap-to-water ratio if needed for desired foam stiffness. Supervise young children during play.
