- Step 1: Grab a large mixing bowl. Whisk together the eggs, milk, pumpkin puree, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt until nicely combined and smooth.
- Step 2: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add butter or oil. Gently dip bread slices into the pumpkin mixture, letting each side soak for a few seconds. Let excess drip off.
- Step 3: Carefully place the dipped bread onto the hot skillet. Cook for about 2 to 3 minutes per side, until golden-brown and cooked through. Adjust heat as needed.
- Step 4: Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar (optional), and drizzled with maple syrup and a dollop of whipped cream (optional).
Notes
Slightly stale bread works best as it's firmer. You can prepare the custard mixture a day in advance and store it in the refrigerator. Cut bread into uniform slices for consistent cooking.
