Servings: 1 suncatcher
Course: Craft, DIY

Ingredients

  • Faceted acrylic beads (8mm) Rainbow of colors
  • Fishing line For hanging
  • Suction cup with hook

Equipment

  • Silicone mold (muffin tin or suncatcher mold)
  • Baking tray
  • Toaster oven or regular oven
  • Scissors

Method

  1. Step 1: Prepare your mold. Grab your silicone mold. This is where your beautiful suncatcher will take shape.
  2. Step 2: Get creative with beads. Arrange your faceted acrylic beads inside the mold, creating patterns or color gradients. Make sure the beads are touching each other; this helps them melt together properly.
  3. Step 3: Preheat your oven. Preheat your toaster oven or regular oven to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Step 4: Bake away! Place your filled silicone mold onto a baking tray. Pop it into the preheated oven and bake for about 10 to 15 minutes, or until the beads have completely melted and fused into a single piece. Keep an eye on them to prevent overcooking.
  5. Step 5: Cool down time. Carefully remove the baking tray from the oven. Let your suncatchers cool in the mold for about 10 minutes. They will still be hot.
  6. Step 6: Add the hanger. Gently pop the cooled suncatchers out of the mold. Cut an 8-inch piece of fishing line. Thread one end through the hole in your suncatcher and tie a secure knot.
  7. Step 7: Hang your art. Attach the other end of the fishing line to a suction cup hook. Find a perfect spot on your window, press the suction cup firmly, and admire your sparkling creation!

Notes

For extra sparkle, sprinkle a tiny bit of fine glitter onto the beads before melting. Ensure good ventilation when melting plastic. Adult supervision is recommended for younger crafters.
