- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Step 2: In a skillet, cook your ground beef or sausage until browned. Drain excess fat. Stir in the taco seasoning and a splash of water. Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Step 3: In a large bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sour cream, refried beans, salsa, and garlic powder. Stir until smooth.
- Step 4: Gently stir the cooked, seasoned meat into the creamy mixture.
- Step 5: Spread the mixture evenly into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Step 6: Sprinkle the shredded Mexican cheese blend evenly over the top.
- Step 7: Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the edges are golden and the center is hot and bubbly.
- Step 8: Garnish with chopped green onions or jalapeños. Serve warm with tortilla chips.
Notes
If you’re a fan of spice, consider adding a can of diced green chilies or some finely chopped pickled jalapeños to the creamy base. You could also stir in some corn or black beans for extra texture and flavor. For a touch of smokiness, a dash of smoked paprika can do wonders.
