Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey or chicken
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • 1 cup shredded cheese your favorite kind
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method
 

  1. Step 1: In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Make sure to break it into small pieces as it cooks.
  2. Step 2: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is translucent and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Step 3: Stir in the diced tomatoes, cooked rice, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together well and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  4. Step 4: Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish. Top with shredded cheese, covering it evenly.
  5. Step 5: Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, swap out the ground beef for a plant-based alternative. This dish can be prepped ahead of time and baked just before serving.
