Method
- Step 1: In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of cornstarch. Feel the fine texture of the powders as you mix them together.
- Step 2: In a separate bowl, mix 1/2 cup of water with a few drops of food coloring. Stir gently and watch the colors swirl together.
- Step 3: Gradually add the colored water to the baking soda and cornstarch mixture. Stir continuously until you achieve a thick paste.
- Step 4: Pack the colored paste tightly into your molds. Press down firmly to ensure they hold their shape.
- Step 5: Place the filled molds on a baking sheet and let them dry for 24 hours.
- Step 6: Once dry, carefully remove the rainbow rocks from the molds.
- Step 7: To conduct the experiment, place the rainbow rocks on a tray or in a container. Pour 1/2 cup of white vinegar over them and watch the fizzing reaction!
Notes
Store the fizzy rainbow rocks in a cool, dry place away from moisture. If you want to reuse them, allow them to dry out completely after the experiment.
