Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour The base of our playdough, giving it that perfect soft texture.
  • 1/4 cup salt This acts as a preservative and helps give the playdough its structure.
  • 1 cup water The binder that brings everything together.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For that super soft, smooth, and pliable feel.
  • 2 teaspoons washable fluorescent paint This is our secret weapon for the glow-in-the-dark magic! Make sure it's washable for easy cleanup.
  • Food coloring or dry Kool-Aid packets optional: If you want extra vibrant colors in the daylight, or a specific hue, these are your go-to.

Method
 

  1. First things first, grab a medium-sized mixing bowl. You’ll want to combine your flour and salt in this bowl. Give it a good stir with a whisk or a spoon until they’re nicely blended. This ensures an even texture throughout your playdough.
  2. Next, it’s time to add the wet ingredients. Pour in your water and vegetable oil. Now, you’ll want to mix everything together until you achieve a smooth, dough-like consistency. It might seem a bit sticky at first, but keep mixing! It’s like magic unfolding right before your eyes.
  3. Here comes the fun part – the glow! Add your washable fluorescent paint to the mixture. Gently fold it in until the paint is evenly distributed. You’ll start to see that special, luminous quality emerge.
  4. Feeling adventurous? If you want to add some extra punch to the colors, now’s the time! Stir in a few drops of food coloring or a bit of dry Kool-Aid powder. Mix it all up until the color is uniform. I find that Kool-Aid packets can give a really lovely, vibrant color and a subtle scent, too!
  5. Once everything is mixed and you have your beautiful, glowing playdough, it’s ready for action! You can dive right in, or if you’re making it ahead of time, follow the storage instructions below.

Want to customize your glow-in-the-dark creation? You’ve got options! For a shinier sheen: A teaspoon of glitter can add an extra sparkle, though it might make cleanup a little more… glittery! Scented playdough: Add a few drops of essential oil (like lavender for calming or lemon for an energizing boost) along with the wet ingredients. Creamier texture: Some people like to add a tablespoon of cream of tartar for an even softer, more elastic playdough. Natural dyes: For an all-natural approach, consider using beet juice for red or turmeric for yellow.
