Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour the base of your dough, soft and versatile.
  • 1/2 cup salt to give texture and help preserve your creations.
  • 1/2 cup water the magic ingredient that brings everything together.
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar for that perfect, smooth dough consistency.
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil to keep your dough nice and pliable.

Equipment

  • Medium Saucepan
  • Spoon
  • Cookie cutters

Method

  1. Step 1: In a medium saucepan, combine the flour, salt, cream of tartar, and vegetable oil. Stir these ingredients together.
  2. Step 2: Gradually add the water to the dry ingredients, stirring continuously to avoid lumps, until it forms a cohesive mixture.
  3. Step 3: Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook the mixture, stirring constantly until it pulls away from the sides and forms a ball.
  4. Step 4: Remove the dough from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
  5. Step 5: Once cool enough to handle, knead the dough until it is smooth.
  6. Step 6: Shape the dough into ornaments as desired and allow them to dry completely before decorating.

Notes

If you have leftover dough, store it in an airtight container. You can also preserve finished ornaments with a clear acrylic spray.
