Servings: 1 bouquet
Course: Craft

Ingredients

  • Borax found in the laundry aisle
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cup Borax dissolved in water
  • Fresh Flowers or pipe cleaners, string, yarn
  • Food Coloring optional, for colored crystals

Equipment

  • Pot
  • Stirring utensil
  • Container for Solution
  • Paper Towels or Drying Rack

Method

  1. Step 1: Boil 3 cups of water in a pot over high heat.
  2. Step 2: Carefully measure 1 cup of Borax. Slowly add it to the boiling water, stirring constantly until fully dissolved. This is your crystal-growing solution.
  3. Step 3: If needed, trim the stems of your flowers to your desired length.
  4. Step 4: Gently place your flowers into the Borax solution, ensuring they are completely submerged. If using a different container, transfer the solution and flowers.
  5. Step 5: Carefully remove the pot from the heat and let the mixture sit completely undisturbed for several hours, or even overnight, allowing crystals to form on the flowers.
  6. Step 6: Once crystals have formed, carefully remove the flowers from the solution, trying not to disturb the crystals.
  7. Step 7: Place the crystal flowers on paper towels or a drying rack to air dry completely.

Notes

Use distilled water for clearer crystals. Avoid stirring the solution after it cools to promote crystal formation. Handle the dry crystal flowers gently as they can be delicate.
