Method
- Step 1: Place your clean plastic lid upside down on a flat surface to serve as your mold.
- Step 2: Generously fill the lid with white craft glue. Ensure a good amount for a substantial suncatcher.
- Step 3: Carefully add three drops of liquid food coloring into the glue, spacing them out.
- Step 4: Use a toothpick to gently swirl the food coloring into the glue, aiming for a marbled effect rather than uniform color. A few swirls are sufficient.
- Step 5: Let the glue dry undisturbed for about 5-6 days. Check for dryness by peeling a small edge around day 4. If sticky, allow more drying time.
- Step 6: Once completely dry and firm, carefully peel the colorful suncatcher from the lid.
- Step 7: Thread a needle with embroidery floss. Poke the needle through the bottom of the suncatcher, leaving an 8-9 inch tail, and repeat two more times for three strands.
- Step 8: Thread about eight pony beads onto each of the three floss strands.
- Step 9: Take two beaded strands and thread them through the holes of a 4-hole button. Tie a secure knot (three times) and trim excess floss.
- Step 10: Thread a new piece of floss onto the needle. Poke it through the top of the suncatcher, knotting securely to create a hanging loop.
- Step 11: Thread about seven pony beads onto the hanging loop. Loop the floss back through the last bead and pull tight to secure.
- Step 12: Hang your Colorful Glue Suncatcher in a sunny window and enjoy the dancing light!
Notes
Substitutions & Additions: Add fine glitter to the glue for extra sparkle. Experiment with clear glue for a different look. Use seed beads or charms instead of pony beads. Use more colors of food coloring. Try shallow silicone molds for different shapes.
Tips for Success: Do not rush the drying process; it's crucial. Avoid over-swirling colors. Ensure your lid is flat. Prep ahead by pouring glue into lids when you have time.
