Method
- Collect your nature treasures from the garden, looking for colorful and interesting shapes.
- Design your suncatcher by arranging natural materials in your molds.
- Mix 1 part unflavored gelatin powder with 4 parts boiling water in a mixing bowl.
- Whisk the mixture until the gelatin powder is completely dissolved and you have a smooth, clear liquid.
- Carefully pour the gelatin mixture into your molds, ensuring the natural decorations are fully submerged.
- Gently insert a piece of string or yarn into each mold for hanging, ensuring it's well-embedded.
- Place the molds in a cool, undisturbed area for 24 to 48 hours to fully harden.
- Once firm, carefully remove your suncatchers from their molds. If sticky, let them air dry for a few more hours.
- Hang your finished bioplastic suncatchers in a sunny window and enjoy the magical display of light!
Notes
For added sparkle, a tiny pinch of biodegradable glitter can be used. A drop of natural food coloring can also tint the gelatin. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
