Ingredients

For the Aroma Stones
  • 0.5 cup baking soda
  • 0.5 cup cornstarch
  • 0.25 cup warm water adjust as needed
  • 10-20 drops essential oils optional, for fragrance

Equipment

  • Medium-sized mixing bowl
  • Spoon
  • baking sheet
  • Parchment Paper (optional)
  • Silicone molds (optional)
  • Airtight container or resealable bag

Method

  1. Step 1: Combine Dry Ingredients: Grab a medium-sized mixing bowl and pour in your baking soda and cornstarch. Give them a quick stir to make sure they’re well combined.
  2. Step 2: Add Water Gradually: Now, slowly start adding the warm water. Stir continuously as you add it. You’re aiming for a consistency like thick mashed potatoes or playdough – something that holds its shape but isn't too sticky. If it feels a bit too dry, add water a teaspoon at a time. If it’s too wet, add a tiny bit more cornstarch.
  3. Step 3: Infuse with Scent: If you’re adding essential oils (and I highly recommend you do!), now’s the time. Start with about 10-20 drops, depending on how strong you want the scent. Stir it in really well to distribute the fragrance evenly throughout the mixture.
  4. Step 4: Shape Your Stones: This is the fun part! You can roll the mixture into small balls, press it into cookie cutters for cute shapes, or even just flatten it and cut it into squares. Get creative! I love using little silicone molds for different shapes.
  5. Step 5: Let Them Dry: Once you’ve shaped your stones, carefully place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a clean, flat surface. Now, patience is key! Let them air dry completely for about 24 to 48 hours. They should feel hard and dry to the touch.
  6. Step 6: Place and Enjoy: Once they’re completely dry, you can place your beautiful aroma stones wherever you want a touch of lovely scent. Pop them in drawers, closets, or place them on shelves.

Notes

Add a tiny drop of food coloring for color, or press dried botanicals into the surface before drying for extra flair. When the scent fades, simply add a few more drops of essential oil.
