Method
- Step 1: Ensure your eggshells or plastic eggs are clean and dry. If using plastic eggs, wipe them down.
- Step 2: Apply a thin, even layer of glue to the surface of each egg using a paintbrush.
- Step 3: Generously sprinkle alum powder all over the glued egg, or gently roll the egg in a plate of alum powder to ensure complete coverage. Place the coated eggs in a container to dry completely, ideally overnight.
- Step 4: In a saucepan, heat 2 cups of water until it is just about to boil. Add the 3/4 cup of alum powder and stir until completely dissolved. Strain if necessary.
- Step 5: Gently submerge the alum-coated eggs into the warm alum solution, ensuring they are fully covered. Let them soak overnight.
- Step 6: The next day, carefully remove the eggs from the solution and let them dry slightly. For larger crystals, repeat the dipping process by submerging them in fresh alum solution for another overnight soak.
- Step 7: Once dry and crystals are formed, display your Crystal Geode Eggs. Handle gently as crystals can be fragile.
Notes
Add a drop or two of food coloring to the alum solution for vibrantly colored crystals. For extra sparkle, sprinkle fine iridescent glitter over the glue before the alum powder. Store completed geode eggs in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
