Ingredients

For the Taco Crackers
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil base that helps the seasoning stick to every cracker
  • 2 tbsp taco seasoning adds classic taco flavor punch
  • 1 tsp garlic powder adds garlicky goodness
  • 1 tsp onion powder brings savory subtle sweetness
  • 1 tsp chili flakes for gentle kick of heat; adjust to taste
  • 1 cup crackers preferably buttery or salted crackers

Equipment

  • Oven
  • medium bowl
  • baking sheet
  • Mixing Bowl or Resealable Plastic Bag

Method

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). This low heat lets the seasoning soak in without burning the crackers.
  2. Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, taco seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, and chili flakes until well combined.
  3. Step 3: Place your crackers in a large mixing bowl or a resealable plastic bag.
  4. Step 4: Pour the seasoned oil mixture over the crackers. Toss gently but thoroughly so every cracker gets that flavorful coating.
  5. Step 5: Spread the coated crackers in a single layer on a baking sheet. Make sure they aren’t piled up; you want them to bake evenly and get crispy.
  6. Step 6: Bake for 10 minutes, then gently stir or flip the crackers to ensure all sides crisp up nicely.
  7. Step 7: Return to the oven and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes, watching closely until the crackers turn golden and irresistibly crisp.
  8. Step 8: Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving to help them firm up perfectly.

Notes

These crackers are fantastic on their own or as a crunchy side for dishes like taco-loaded baked potatoes or a zesty dip platter. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze for up to a month.
