  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp cinnamon
  • pinch nutmeg optional
  • butter for the skillet
  • maple syrup for serving

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk

Method

  1. Step 1: In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth and fragrant.
  2. Step 2: Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a generous pat of butter, letting it melt and sizzle.
  3. Step 3: Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides well but not soaking so long that it falls apart.
  4. Step 4: Place the coated bread slices into the hot skillet. Cook for 2–3 minutes on each side, until golden brown and slightly crispy on the edges.
  5. Step 5: Serve immediately with a generous drizzle of maple syrup on top.

Notes

To switch things up, try brioche or challah bread and swap milk for almond or oat milk. Add fresh berries, whipped cream, or powdered sugar for extra flair. Store leftovers in the fridge up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
