Ingredients

For the Play Dough
  • 1/2 cup hand lotion or hair conditioner lightly scented is recommended
  • A few drops food coloring various colors for a vibrant outcome
  • 1 1/4 cups cornstarch

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Airtight container or zip-top bag

Method

  1. Step 1: Grab a mixing bowl and pour in your hand lotion or hair conditioner. This is the base of our lovely dough.
  2. Step 2: Now for the fun part – add a few drops of your chosen food coloring. Start with a little; you can always add more to achieve your desired shade.
  3. Step 3: Stir in 1 cup of the cornstarch. It will start to get thick pretty quickly, but keep stirring until it's mostly combined.
  4. Step 4: Gradually add the remaining 1/4 cup of cornstarch, mixing well after each addition. You're looking for a consistency that's becoming too thick to stir with a spoon.
  5. Step 5: Once it’s too stiff for the spoon, it's time to get your hands in there! Use your hands to bring the mixture together. It might seem a bit crumbly at first, but don't worry.
  6. Step 6: Turn the mixture out onto a clean surface and start kneading. Knead it like you're making bread, pushing and folding until it becomes wonderfully smooth and soft. This is where the real play dough magic happens!
  7. Step 7: Test the consistency: if it's too sticky, sprinkle in a little more cornstarch and knead it in. If it feels a bit too dry, a tiny bit more lotion will do the trick. You're aiming for that perfect, pliable feel.

Notes

Glitter: For some extra sparkle, add a tablespoon of fine glitter to the dough while you're kneading.Scents: A drop or two of essential oils (like lavender for calming or peppermint for energizing) can add a lovely aroma.Textural Fun: Mix in a little bit of salt for a slightly grainy texture, or fine sand for a "beach" themed dough.
