Method
- Step 1: Grab a mixing bowl and pour in your hand lotion or hair conditioner. This is the base of our lovely dough.
- Step 2: Now for the fun part – add a few drops of your chosen food coloring. Start with a little; you can always add more to achieve your desired shade.
- Step 3: Stir in 1 cup of the cornstarch. It will start to get thick pretty quickly, but keep stirring until it's mostly combined.
- Step 4: Gradually add the remaining 1/4 cup of cornstarch, mixing well after each addition. You're looking for a consistency that's becoming too thick to stir with a spoon.
- Step 5: Once it’s too stiff for the spoon, it's time to get your hands in there! Use your hands to bring the mixture together. It might seem a bit crumbly at first, but don't worry.
- Step 6: Turn the mixture out onto a clean surface and start kneading. Knead it like you're making bread, pushing and folding until it becomes wonderfully smooth and soft. This is where the real play dough magic happens!
- Step 7: Test the consistency: if it's too sticky, sprinkle in a little more cornstarch and knead it in. If it feels a bit too dry, a tiny bit more lotion will do the trick. You're aiming for that perfect, pliable feel.
Notes
Glitter: For some extra sparkle, add a tablespoon of fine glitter to the dough while you're kneading.Scents: A drop or two of essential oils (like lavender for calming or peppermint for energizing) can add a lovely aroma.Textural Fun: Mix in a little bit of salt for a slightly grainy texture, or fine sand for a "beach" themed dough.
