Ingredients

For the Chinese Pepper Steak
  • 1 lb flank steak thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil for stir-frying
  • 1 unit bell pepper sliced
  • 1 unit onion sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp ginger minced
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • as needed cooked rice for serving

Equipment

  • Large Skillet or Wok

Method

  1. Step 1: In a bowl, combine the sliced flank steak, soy sauce, and cornstarch. Mix well and let marinate for 15-30 minutes.
  2. Step 2: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated steak and stir-fry until browned, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Step 3: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the sliced bell pepper and onion, and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until they begin to soften.
  4. Step 4: Add the minced garlic and ginger, and stir-fry for an additional minute until fragrant.
  5. Step 5: Return the steak to the skillet, then add the beef broth, oyster sauce, and sesame oil. Stir well to combine and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and everything is heated through.
  6. Step 6: Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot over cooked rice, and enjoy!
