Method
- Step 1: Start by combining the fruit juice, granulated sugar, and light corn syrup in a saucepan. Heat it over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has completely dissolved.
- Step 2: Once everything is dissolved, remove the saucepan from heat and sprinkle the gelatin powder over the mixture. Stir until the gelatin is fully incorporated and the mixture is smooth.
- Step 3: Add the citric acid and salt to the mixture, stirring well to combine.
- Step 4: Pour the mixture into a silicone candy mold or a lined baking dish. Allow it to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for 4-6 hours or until fully set.
- Step 5: Once set, carefully remove the candy from the mold or dish and cut into your desired shapes or sizes.
- Step 6: In a small bowl, place additional granulated sugar. Toss the candies in the sugar until well coated.
- Step 7: Store your homemade sour patch kids in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
Notes
Make sure to stir well to dissolve the sugar completely; otherwise, your candies might end up gritty. Use silicone molds for easy removal; they make the whole process so much smoother!
