Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 1 cup baking soda the base for our dough that gives it a lovely texture.
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar the bubbly ingredient that helps our dough come together.
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup adds a touch of sweetness to our mixture.
  • 1 cup cornstarch helps with the consistency and stability of our ornaments.
For Decoration
  • Brown acrylic paint
  • Red pom-pom
  • Googly eyes
  • Ribbon for hanging

Equipment

  • Medium Saucepan
  • Cookie Cutter
  • Straw

Method

  1. Step 1: In a medium saucepan, combine the baking soda, white vinegar, and corn syrup. Stir gently until everything is well mixed.
  2. Step 2: Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook the mixture while stirring constantly until it thickens and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  3. Step 3: Stir in the cornstarch until fully combined, then knead the dough until it’s smooth and pliable.
  4. Step 4: Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness and cut out your reindeer shapes using a cookie cutter.
  5. Step 5: Let the ornaments dry completely for 24-48 hours. Once dry, paint them with brown acrylic paint.
  6. Step 6: Attach googly eyes and a red pom-pom for the nose using craft glue.
  7. Step 7: Thread a ribbon through the hole at the top and tie a knot for hanging.

Notes

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Consider adding a fresh coat of paint or new decorations each year to keep the spirit alive.
