Ingredients
  

For the Baking Soda Growing Snow Tree
  • 1 cup baking soda foundation for the snow tree
  • 1/4 cup water to form the paste
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar triggers the growing reaction
  • food coloring optional, for color variations

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Shallow Tray or Plate
  • Small bowl

Method
 

  1. Step 1: In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of baking soda with 1/4 cup of water. Stir until you create a thick paste that feels soft and malleable to the touch.
  2. Step 2: If you want to add a pop of color, drop in a few drops of food coloring and mix until well combined.
  3. Step 3: Shape your tree using your hands to mold the baking soda mixture into a tree shape directly on your shallow tray or plate.
  4. Step 4: In a separate small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of white vinegar with a few drops of food coloring if you’re using it.
  5. Step 5: Slowly pour the vinegar mixture over your baking soda tree and watch it bubble and expand!
  6. Step 6: Take a moment to enjoy the spectacle, and capture the moment with pictures!

Notes

This project is temporary, but you can let it dry completely and store it in a cool, dry place for a short time.
