Ingredients
  

For the Dough
  • 1 cup baking soda the base for your dough
  • 1 cup white vinegar reacts with baking soda
  • 1 cup cornstarch helps bind the ingredients
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup adds sweetness and glossy finish
Optional
  • food coloring for adding color to ornaments
  • twine or ribbon for hanging ornaments
  • cookie cutters for fun shapes

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Cookie cutters
  • Straw or Skewer

Method
 

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C).
  2. Step 2: In a mixing bowl, combine the baking soda and white vinegar. Stir until well combined.
  3. Step 3: Add the cornstarch and corn syrup to the mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  4. Step 4: If desired, add food coloring and mix until evenly distributed.
  5. Step 5: Knead the dough on a clean surface until smooth.
  6. Step 6: Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness and cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
  7. Step 7: Place the shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Step 8: Make a hole at the top of each ornament for hanging using a straw or skewer.
  9. Step 9: Bake the ornaments for 2-3 hours until completely dry and hard.
  10. Step 10: Allow to cool completely before threading twine or ribbon through the holes for hanging.

Notes

Store ornaments in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Wipe with a damp cloth to remove dust before reusing.
