Ingredients
Method
- Step 1: In a saucepan, combine the cornstarch, water, and vinegar. Stir the mixture over medium heat until it thickens and becomes translucent. You'll notice the texture change, and it will feel like a warm, thick paste as you stir.
- Step 2: Once thickened, remove the saucepan from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring to achieve your preferred color. This is where the fun begins! Watch how the color swirls and transforms your mixture.
- Step 3: Pour the mixture onto a sheet of wax paper and spread it evenly to your desired thickness. The smooth surface will be satisfying to work with, and you can create varying shapes and sizes.
- Step 4: Use cookie cutters or molds to cut out shapes from the bioplastic. The excitement builds as you reveal each unique piece. Feel free to experiment with different shapes!
- Step 5: Allow the shapes to dry for 24-48 hours until completely hardened. During this time, you can admire your creations and look forward to the colorful display they will create.
- Step 6: Once dry, carefully peel the shapes off the wax paper. Enjoy the satisfying sound as they come loose, revealing their beautiful colors.
- Step 7: Punch a hole at the top of each suncatcher and thread a piece of string through for hanging. This final touch makes your suncatchers ready for display!
- Step 8: Display your bioplastic suncatchers in a sunny window to enjoy the colorful light effects. Watch as the sunlight filters through, filling your space with warmth and joy.
Notes
To preserve your beautiful suncatchers, store them in a cool, dry place. If you decide to change up your decor, you can easily reuse the materials by remaking new suncatchers or even experimenting with different colors and shapes.
