  • 1 cup cornstarch the main ingredient that gives our suncatchers their structure.
  • 1 cup water to help create the bioplastic mixture.
  • 1 tbsp vinegar adds flexibility to the suncatchers.

  • Food coloring to bring your suncatchers to life with color.
  • Wax paper to pour your mixture on for easy removal.
  • Cookie cutters or molds to create fun shapes.
  • String for hanging your beautiful creations.

Method
 

  1. Step 1: In a saucepan, combine the cornstarch, water, and vinegar. Stir the mixture over medium heat until it thickens and becomes translucent. You'll notice the texture change, and it will feel like a warm, thick paste as you stir.
  2. Step 2: Once thickened, remove the saucepan from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring to achieve your preferred color. This is where the fun begins! Watch how the color swirls and transforms your mixture.
  3. Step 3: Pour the mixture onto a sheet of wax paper and spread it evenly to your desired thickness. The smooth surface will be satisfying to work with, and you can create varying shapes and sizes.
  4. Step 4: Use cookie cutters or molds to cut out shapes from the bioplastic. The excitement builds as you reveal each unique piece. Feel free to experiment with different shapes!
  5. Step 5: Allow the shapes to dry for 24-48 hours until completely hardened. During this time, you can admire your creations and look forward to the colorful display they will create.
  6. Step 6: Once dry, carefully peel the shapes off the wax paper. Enjoy the satisfying sound as they come loose, revealing their beautiful colors.
  7. Step 7: Punch a hole at the top of each suncatcher and thread a piece of string through for hanging. This final touch makes your suncatchers ready for display!
  8. Step 8: Display your bioplastic suncatchers in a sunny window to enjoy the colorful light effects. Watch as the sunlight filters through, filling your space with warmth and joy.

Notes

To preserve your beautiful suncatchers, store them in a cool, dry place. If you decide to change up your decor, you can easily reuse the materials by remaking new suncatchers or even experimenting with different colors and shapes.
