Ingredients

For the Fireworks Jar
  • 1 clear glass jar or plastic sensory bottle with a secure lid (make sure it's clean!)
  • 3/4 cup warm water (just warm enough to touch comfortably)
  • 2–3 tablespoons vegetable oil (any neutral oil like canola or sunflower will work)
  • red, white, and blue food coloring (the classic patriotic trio!)
  • glitter, star-shaped confetti, or shimmer powder optional, for extra sparkle
  • 1/2 tablet Alka-Seltzer optional, this is where the magic happens!

Equipment

  • Clear glass jar or plastic sensory bottle with a secure lid
  • Small bowl or cup

Method

  1. Step 1: Grab your clean jar or sensory bottle. Fill it about 3/4 of the way full with warm water.
  2. Step 2: If using glitter, star confetti, or shimmer powder, add it to the water and give it a gentle swirl to distribute it evenly.
  3. Step 3: In a separate small bowl or cup, pour in the vegetable oil and add a few drops of red, white, and blue food coloring. Gently mix so the colors form little droplets suspended in the oil.
  4. Step 4: Slowly and carefully pour this colorful oil mixture into your jar of water. Watch as the droplets sink and mingle.
  5. Step 5: Break off about half of an Alka-Seltzer tablet and drop it into the jar to create a bubbling effect.

Notes

Customize with different colors or try clear corn syrup instead of oil. Ensure the lid is on tight for safety and storage. The Alka-Seltzer reaction lasts for a few minutes.
